However, this does not change the fact that there is always a core underlying theme which affects the whole of the play, or book, or movie.You may discover this theme by looking at the characters and how they react to the actions of the protagonist. Also, the viewpoint character may indicate a fact that an audience member could not easily deduce on their own.
